Water scarcity is a reality that everyone needs to live with. For farmers, the impact of water scarcity is even more severe: animals need water to drink, and crops need water to grow. That is why it is important to always know how much water you have available.
In the United Arab Emirates, agriculture is the biggest consumer of water, accounting for two thirds of the country’s water use. Crucial steps are being taken to ensure that water is not wasted by encouraging waterwise methods of irrigation, such as drip irrigation. This also provides the opportunity to automate systems with accurate monitoring of water levels and water use to manage water resources effectively.
Manually checking water levels in storage tanks to record volumes of use or volumes received from a water source is inefficient and inaccurate. Gallagher’s water monitoring solutions take the headache out of measuring and managing water.
With Gallagher farmers can take charge of their resources. The wireless system monitors water levels and sends updates to the touchscreen receiver or mobile app, that enables the user to make decisions regarding water use.
How does Gallagher’s water monitoring system work?
Every system consists of at least one water level sensor, a data transmitter, and a touch screen receiver sold together in a starter kit.

The system works by receiving data from the water level sensor that is placed in the water tank or storage structure. Connected to this is the data transmitter that sends the information to the receiver. You can also receive push notifications on your phone via the mobile app that provides the user with early warnings about low water levels.
In addition, pump controllers can be added to the system to operate pumps remotely. With this system, a farmer can monitor up to nine water tanks and control up to two water pumps across the farm. This is possible by adding expansion kits, consisting of a single water level sensor and data transmitter, to the existing system.
Both the data transmitter and receiver are wireless, meaning that it does not require electricity.
The user can subscribe to the Gallagher water monitoring mobile app to stay on top of water levels through their mobile devices.

What are the benefits of using Gallagher’s water monitoring system?
Since the system is easy to operate and install, every farmer can have peace of mind that there is enough water available for thirsty livestock or crops.
By using this system, you can:
- Prevent water outages by being alerted to low levels early.
- Maintain water levels with the additional water pump control.
- Improve efficiency by making informed decisions.
- Save time by not needing to manually check water levels.
- Save labour costs since there is no need to employ someone to manually control the water usage.
Having more control over your water levels also means that your water use can be managed better. An added benefit of efficient water monitoring is that leaks can be detected early. For example, if you notice that a tank has been filled, but you receive an alert that levels are falling without the water being pumped out of the system, you can investigate possible leaks.
What is more, farmers can also note how much water is being used by livestock by recording the volumes needed to fill water troughs. It is a tool to monitor animal health.
